Who makes Burberry perfume
Not Burberry, for most of its history. Thomas Burberry opened an outfitter's shop in Basingstoke in 1856 at the age of twenty-one; the house says he invented gabardine in 1879 and built the trench coat out of it for officers in the First World War, which is why a coat is still the thing every Burberry bottle imitates. Perfume came late. The fragrance business was licensed to the French-American group Inter Parfums from 1993, and Burberry was about half of that company's sales when it bought the licence back at the end of 2012 for 181 million euros. Burberry ran beauty itself for four years and then, in April 2017, handed it to Coty on a long-term exclusive licence that took effect in October 2017, Coty paying about 130 million pounds for the rights and keeping Burberry as the creative lead. Neither company has ever said how long the licence runs. In April 2026 a trade report said Coty was in talks to sell the Burberry and Hugo Boss licences to Inter Parfums; Coty called it categorically false and Inter Parfums said there were no discussions, so as of this writing the perfume is Coty's. The fashion house itself is run by Joshua Schulman, chief executive since July 2024, with Daniel Lee as chief creative officer since 2022.
Why that matters to a buyer in Oman: a Burberry perfume is a Coty product wearing a Burberry coat, composed by whichever perfumer Coty and Burberry hired, and the two men who did the hiring well are Francis Kurkdjian, who made Mr. Burberry, My Burberry and Her, and Aurelien Guichard, who made every Hero. Mr. Burberry: the trench coat in a bottle
Mr. Burberry was unveiled on 4 April 2016 as an eau de toilette, composed by Francis Kurkdjian with Christopher Bailey, then Burberry's chief creative and chief executive, and it is still in production ten years on. The published pyramid is grapefruit, tarragon and cardamom over birch leaf, nutmeg oil and cedarwood, on vetiver, guaiac wood and sandalwood; the brand's own page keeps only three of those, grapefruit, vetiver and smoky guaiac wood, which tells you what it thinks the fragrance is about. The bottle is the black Heritage trench coat remade in glass: a weighted cap with a horn-look button and a hand-tied knot of English-woven gabardine around the neck. Steve McQueen, the director of 12 Years a Slave, shot the launch film in London, his first commercial, with Josh Whitehouse and Amber Anderson. An eau de parfum followed in 2017, again by Kurkdjian, with tarragon, cinnamon, patchouli and a smokier vetiver, and two further editions, Indigo in 2018 and Element in 2020, have since dropped off Burberry's own fragrance page. Faces lists the eau de toilette at AED 470 for 100 ml.
Our Mr Bery opens on grapefruit, cardamom and tarragon, gives the heart nutmeg, birch leaf and lavender and keeps the base warm with vetiver, guaiac wood, sandalwood and cedar. Three sizes from OMR 2.500, all available this week, which puts the 100 ml at OMR 5.500, about a ninth of the Faces price once converted. Burberry Hero replaced Mr. Burberry as the men's pillar in 2021. Aurelien Guichard, the seventh-generation Grasse perfumer who also owns Matiere Premiere, built the eau de toilette on juniper, black pepper and bergamot over a trio of cedarwoods, Atlas, Himalayan and Appalachian, and Adam Driver fronted the campaign, photographed by Mario Sorrenti, in which he rides and then becomes a horse. Guichard followed it with Hero Eau de Parfum in 2022, pine needles, benzoin and incense over the same cedars; Hero Parfum in 2024, cedarwood oils with amyris and cypriol in a refillable bottle; and Hero Elixir de Parfum in February 2026, with tonka, vanilla and leather. Faces lists the eau de toilette at AED 500 and the eau de parfum at AED 590 for 100 ml. MOJ does not read Hero.
On the women's side, Kurkdjian composed My Burberry in 2014 with Christopher Bailey, a London garden after rain in sweet pea, quince and patchouli. He followed it with Burberry Her in October 2018, red and dark berries over jasmine and violet on dry amber and musk, with Cara Delevingne as the face; Faces lists Her at AED 690 for 100 ml. Burberry Goddess arrived in 2023 from the perfumer Amandine Clerc-Marie, three vanillas, an infusion, a caviar and an absolute, with lavender, ginger and cocoa, and Emma Mackey among lionesses in the campaign. Coty called Goddess the biggest launch in its history in February 2024, and in its May 2026 investor presentation said Her and Goddess were both in the world's top twenty women's fragrance franchises in 2025, with Hero in the men's top twenty; a Goddess Amber Vanilla edition followed in 2026. The older Burberry men's fragrances, Weekend from the late 1990s, Touch from 2000, Brit from 2004 and London from 2006, are still sold on the brand's site.
