Best Tom Ford Perfumes in Oman

Article summary: Five Tom Ford fragrances worth knowing, with MOJ versions in Oman from OMR 2.500, and three corrections you will not find elsewhere: Ombre Leather is the name of five separate releases rather than one and the first is discontinued, the chocolate everybody lists in Black Orchid is not in the brand's official note list and never was, and Tom Ford himself has held no contracted role at the house since the end of 2023.

  • Ombre Leather is not one fragrance. Five releases have carried the name since 2016, and Ounass Oman currently sells four of them side by side.
  • Black Orchid's stated composition changed between its 2006 launch and today. Neither version contains chocolate or gardenia.
  • Estee Lauder bought the entire Tom Ford brand, not a fragrance licence, closing in April 2023 at an announced enterprise value of USD 2.8 billion.
  • There is no official Tom Ford store or price list in Oman. Ounass Oman sells Ombre Leather EDP at OMR 88.000 for 100ml, and the spread between Omani sellers on one bottle exceeds a third.
  • MOJ versions run OMR 2.500 to 11.000, all available except the 100ml of Tobacco Vanilla.

Ombre Leather is not one fragrance, it is five

This is the most useful thing in the article, because a shopper in Oman meets the problem on a single shelf. Five different releases have carried the name.

The first, in 2016, sat in the house's limited collection and was led by violet leaf, drier and sharper than what followed. It is fully discontinued, so nothing new is available anywhere. The second, in 2018, is the signature-line eau de parfum that became the commercial default, led by cardamom with leather and jasmine sambac over an amber and moss base. The third, in 2021, is the parfum, and here the brand states the difference itself: double the orris concentration, plus violet leaf, cedarwood and green tobacco. Read that as creamier, more powdery, less airy. The fourth, in 2024, is a lighter eau de toilette. The fifth, in 2026, is the real departure, pushed by juniper and pinyon wood into woody desert territory rather than floral leather.

Ounass Oman lists four of those five concurrently. So when someone says they tried Ombre Leather and did not like it, the right question is: which one?

The five, with the MOJ versions

1. Tobacco Vanilla

The cheapest way in and, without much argument, the most loved sweet fragrance in the Gulf. Tobacco leaf, ginger and spices open it, then vanilla, cacao, tonka bean and tobacco blossom, over dried fruits, amber and dark woods. Thick, honeyed and warm, and one of the few things here that is still on your clothes the following day. It belongs at winter evenings, majlis gatherings and weddings, and one light spray is enough in Omani heat. One buying note: the 100ml is unavailable at the moment, so 30ml and 50ml are what you can get.

2. Black Orchid

The house's first fragrance, from 2006, and the strangest thing it has built. Black truffle opens it alongside blackcurrant, bergamot and ylang ylang, then the black orchid heart arrives with lotus wood, spices and jammy fruit, over patchouli, vanilla, incense and sandalwood. Dark and heavy, worn by men and women alike in Oman, and it belongs after sunset rather than before, because the weight climbs in daytime heat. One or two sprays.

3. Leather Tuscan

An opening unlike anything else: sticky raspberry and thyme crashing into a wall of fresh leather, then saffron, olibanum and a slip of jasmine, before amber, suede and dry woods take over. This asks for attention rather than sitting in the background, so it belongs at evenings out and formal events. One spray is plenty in Omani warmth, and in winter it holds from dinner until you are home. Note that our product name inverts the original: Tom Ford calls it Tuscan Leather, we call it Leather Tuscan, and that is our error rather than theirs.

4. Noir Extreme

The closest thing here to Gulf taste. Cardamom, saffron, nutmeg and mandarin open it, then a dessert-like heart of almond milk, orange blossom and rose, over amber, sandalwood, vanilla and warm woods. It suits weddings, Eid nights and formal evenings, and it handles Omani humidity well, projecting for the first hours before settling onto skin. Worth knowing: the note we call almond milk is called Indian kulfi by Tom Ford, a frozen dairy sweet, and the two descriptions lead to much the same impression.

5. Ombre Leather

The quieter leather, and much easier to wear than Leather Tuscan. Cardamom, pink pepper and violet leaf open it, then a suede-like leather heart with jasmine sambac, over amber, patchouli, moss and vetiver. It does not fill a room the way its siblings do, which makes it workable for office days in the cooler months and for weekends. This is the right entry point for anyone who has wanted to try leather and feared it would be too much. Ours comes in four sizes up to 200ml at OMR 20.000, which is the lowest price per millilitre on this list.

What is actually in Black Orchid, and what everybody gets wrong

Mexican chocolate and gardenia appear in almost every article written about Black Orchid. Neither is in the brand's official note list today, and neither was in it at launch.

What is true is subtler and more interesting: the house changed what it publishes. In November 2006 the official list was long, running through black truffle, ylang ylang, bergamot, blackcurrant, jasmine, lotus wood, patchouli, incense, vetiver, vanilla and sandalwood. The list the brand publishes today is six notes: black truffle, ylang ylang, black orchid, black plum, rum absolute and patchouli. Black plum and rum absolute were not in the 2006 list at all, and lotus wood has been dropped from it.

The precision matters. That is a change in what the brand states about the composition, and it is not evidence that the fragrance itself was reformulated. We say the first and not the second. As for the chocolate impression in the drydown, that is real as an impression, but it is not a stated note, and the difference between those two things is the difference between an article you can rely on and one that was copied.

What the originals cost in Oman

There is no official Tom Ford e-commerce site in Oman and no official price list in rials. What can be relied on is Ounass Oman, and these figures were read off the product pages rather than a category grid: Ombre Leather eau de parfum at OMR 88.000 for 100ml, Black Orchid eau de parfum at OMR 87.600 for 100ml, Ombre Leather parfum at OMR 74.400 for 50ml, and Noir Extreme eau de parfum at OMR 62.400 for 50ml.

Tobacco Vanille and Tuscan Leather sit around OMR 116 for 50ml, but that figure comes from a category grid rather than a product page, so treat it as approximate.

One point worth making plainly: the spread on an identical bottle between sellers in Oman is large, and on one of these it exceeds a third. We are not accusing anyone of anything. The practical rule is to buy where the source is backed, and to treat an unusually low price as a question rather than an opportunity. Our own interpretations sit in the Tom Ford collection.

Who owns Tom Ford now

Three things get conflated. First, Estee Lauder did not buy the fragrance licence in 2023; it had held that since 2005, when the beauty division was created. What it bought in 2023 was the whole brand and its intellectual property, announced in November 2022 at an enterprise value of USD 2.8 billion and closed on 28 April 2023.

Second, Zegna bought the fashion operating business rather than the trademark, and licenses the name from Estee Lauder. Third, Marcolin never left, paying USD 250 million for an eyewear licence described as exclusive and perpetual.

As for Tom Ford the man, the acquisition agreement had him continuing as creative visionary only through the end of 2023. Haider Ackermann has been creative director since 2024. So every fragrance released after that date is the work of the house rather than of the man, which is a detail most writing about the 2024 and 2026 releases gets wrong.

For anyone who enjoys the fine print, there is a thread visible in the brand's own pages: some of its published notes carry the names of materials made exclusively for one fragrance house, materials only that house's perfumers can use. The brand therefore documents, without meaning to, which composition house made those fragrances, at a point where everyone else is guessing.

How to choose between them

If you want warm and sweet and lasting, Tobacco Vanilla. If you want the one built for Gulf occasions, Noir Extreme. If you want a leather you can wear to work, Ombre Leather. If you want a leather that turns heads, Leather Tuscan. If you want the darkest and strangest, Black Orchid.

On size, the 30ml is the sensible first purchase, because every one of these is heavy in character and none of them is for everyone. If you already know what you like, the 100ml, or the 200ml of Ombre Leather, is cheaper by a wide margin per millilitre.
